LUV Systems Achieves UL Certification for halō™ Air Disinfection Platform

Intertek UL/ETL/ATM Certification

LAKE FOREST, CA (September 8, 2023)LUV Systems, Inc. today announced that its halō™ Model 5R/M indoor air disinfection system has received UL/ETL certification and Authorization to Mark from Intertek Testing Services NA Inc., a key milestone in the company’s regulatory and commercialization roadmap.

Certification was granted under UL 507 standards for electric fans, encompassing rigorous evaluation across electrical, mechanical, thermal/fire safety, structural integrity, and ultraviolet exposure compliance. In addition, all critical components and materials used in the halō system were validated to meet UL/ETL safety requirements.

The halō Model 5R/M successfully passed a full suite of performance and safety tests, including:

  • Electrical integrity and grounding continuity
  • Starting current and input performance
  • Temperature and thermal stability
  • Dielectric voltage withstand
  • Locked rotor cycling
  • Humidity conditioning
  • Structural load and mounting safety
  • UV radiation exposure compliance including no ozone
  • Impact resistance

This certification demonstrates that the halō system meets stringent industry standards required for safe deployment in real-world environments.

Anu Sood, CEO of LUV Systems, stated:  “The achievement of UL/ETL certification and authorization to mark represents a significant milestone for both LUV Systems and our halō™ air disinfection platform.  It validates our core design principle - ensuring safe, continuous disinfection and operation in occupied spaces. Successfully passing all tests on the first attempt reflects the strength of our engineering, product design, and validation processes. We extend our congratulations and thanks to the entire team who contributed to this accomplishment.”

The halō Model 5R/M is a first-of-its-kind low-UVC air disinfection system engineered for continuous use in occupied spaces. The platform integrates:

  • A proprietary upflow fan system that captures air from the breathing zone
  • A LUV™ light ring that disinfects air using controlled UVC exposure
  • Recirculation of treated air back into the indoor environment

This approach targets airborne pathogens at their source while maintaining occupant safety—an increasingly critical requirement for modern indoor environments.

LUV Systems’ product strategy is built around three core value drivers:
  • Proven Effectiveness - Demonstrated reduction of airborne pathogens
  • Engineered Safety - Certified for operation around people and pets
  • Scalable Affordability - Designed for broad residential and commercial deployment
Ultraviolet disinfection has been used for over a century in healthcare, laboratory, and water treatment applications. LUV Systems extends this foundation with a proprietary dosing algorithm that correlates surface viral inactivation data with real-world air disinfection performance—enhancing predictability and scalability. With UL/ETL certification now secured, LUV Systems advances its readiness for commercial scale deployment, reinforcing its position in the rapidly growing indoor air quality (IAQ) market.
