GARDENA, CA (October 9, 2020)EnviroProcess Consultants, Inc. (EP Consultants) and LUV Systems, Inc. today announced the successful completion of a functional prototype of the halō Model 5R/M air disinfection system, marking a key milestone in the company’s path toward commercialization of its low-wavelength ultraviolet (UVC) technology platform.

The halō is the first product in LUV Systems’ portfolio of UVC-based disinfection solutions designed for use in occupied indoor environments. The patent-pending Model 5R/M integrates a fan and UVC light ring to capture air from the breathing zone, disinfect it using a controlled UVC dose, and recirculate cleaned air back into the room. Ultraviolet disinfection has been used for more than a century across applications such as healthcare, laboratories, and water treatment, underscoring its established effectiveness and market acceptance.

According to Danish Khatri, Principal Engineer at LUV Systems, the system design is based on COVID-19 inactivation research conducted at Boston University. “The Model 5R/M fixture is capable of disinfecting the air in a 30-by-30-foot room in seconds,” he said. “It is designed to deliver effective air disinfection without requiring direct UVC exposure to occupants.”

The halō product line will be offered in multiple configurations and finishes, supporting deployment across diverse indoor environments and enabling integration into existing architectural and interior design requirements.

Neeraj Chaudhary, Business Analyst at LUV Systems, highlighted the market opportunity: “Our solutions are designed to meet the growing demand for effective, affordable air and surface disinfection across healthcare, residential, commercial, education, retail, entertainment, and transportation sectors. We believe this technology can play a critical role in long-term indoor air quality and infection control strategies.”

Following successful prototype development, LUV Systems is advancing into performance optimization, final design validation, and preparation for product launch. Principal Anu Sood noted that the company has made significant progress across key areas, including patent filings, laboratory validation of surface and airborne UVC inactivation of SARS-CoV-2, dose modeling, and manufacturing sourcing.

LUV Systems’ product strategy is centered on three core value drivers:

  • Proven Effectiveness against a broad range of airborne and surface pathogens;
  • Engineered Safety for use in occupied environments, including around people and pets; and
  • Affordability to enable widespread adoption across consumer and commercial markets.

To support performance and differentiation, the company has developed a proprietary dosing algorithm that correlates surface viral inactivation data with effective indoor air disinfection rates, enabling predictable and scalable outcomes across a wide range of applications.

EP Consultants, an affiliate of LUV Systems, is a California-based environmental and air quality engineering firm with more than 30 years of experience serving commercial and industrial clients.
